This program is designed for children ages 3–8 who are just starting their reading journey or could use a boost in order to read at (or above!) grade level.

Our standards-aligned phonics program covers foundational reading skills for Pre-K through second grade. Your child should start in the section that best matches their current skill level.

The program starts with the Pre-reader section, which introduces the alphabet and letter sounds. It continues with the Learn to Read section, where your child will have a chance to read a new book after each lesson.

Your subscription includes monthly access to our multi-subject App (Phonics, Spelling, and Math) for up to three learners, plus a new Practice Pack containing a phonics workbook, two to three storybooks, and stickers shipped to your home each month. You can adjust the Practice Pack shipping frequency on your customer dashboard.

Yes! Your subscription includes app access for up to three separate learners. Each learner’s progress is tracked individually. You will receive one Practice Pack each month with your subscription. You can add extra Practice Packs to your subscription for $9.99 per month for each additional learner.

Although our program was not developed specifically as a teaching aid for children with learning challenges, it has helped many children with diverse learning needs improve their reading skills.

There is something about the repetition, pacing, and interactivity that seems to strike a chord with young learners. The app offers an engaging interactive digital experience, while the Practice Pack provides a hands-on learning modality that other reading apps do not provide. We encourage families to try the program for 30 days to see if it’s a good fit. We also suggest you check out this Facebook group, founded specifically for parents of children with learning challenges using Hooked on Phonics. It’s a very supportive space!

Hooked on Phonics can serve as a useful review tool for older children reading at (or below) the second grade level. Even if some of the early lessons are on the easier side for this age group, the review can give them a great confidence boost. Because each step builds on the ones before it, once learners reach lessons that challenge them, they are better equipped to take on new concepts. We encourage using Hooked on Spelling—which is included with your app subscription—as an added way to improve both reading and spelling skills.
